The community of Akwesasne responded with generosity and financial support to the needs of the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department on May 24th. A Chicken BBQ raised much needed funds for the HAVFD, and celebrated the hard work and consistent protection by this team.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, funding was cut by 50%, in addition to funding provided by the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, which has been closed for months.
Community members and businesses quickly rallied around the HAVFD, hosting the Chicken BBQ, after the April 1st announcement that funding would be cut for HAVFD, and other community support recipients.
HAVFD Fire Chief Clinton Jacobs stated, “We extend our most sincere appreciation to our sponsors, volunteers, and all those who purchased dinners at our Benefit Chicken BBQ.”
The funds raised will be used for the essential operational expenses of the HAVFD, in their ongoing work in keeping the community safe during emergencies. The Hogansburg Akwesasne Fire Department has been protecting the community since 1954.
Niawenhkowa to all the sponsors, door-prize donors and volunteers!
