Akwesasne –
After a 7 day search, officials say the body of Akwesasne community member, Kirk Ransom, has been found. Ransom had been missing since last Sunday when his snowmobile went through the ice in the St Lawrence River. Ransom was located by emergency officials this afternoon underneath the ice shelf.
Throughout the past week, many community members had gone to the river bank, where rescue crews worked tirelessly, to conduct traditional Haudenosaunne ceremonies to bring Ransom home, burning tobacco and sending out prayers in an effort to return him to his family and community.
