A cornucopia of goodness awaits you at the Akwesasne Farmer’s Market

As the summer months wane, so do the number of days left to be able to enjoy the Akwesasne Farmers Market, now celebrating its second year at Generations Park.

The pavilion on Margaret Terrance Memorial Way welcomes a fairly mellow crowd on Thursdays and Saturdays. From beautiful vegetables and fruits, to an array of lucious herbs and flowers, Mother Earth brings forth her abundance to the scene.

John Bonaparte of Bare Bones Farms, and the Manager of Akwesasne Farmer’s Market says, “despite the hectic year, the Akwesasne Farmer’s Market has done extraordinarily well. We increased our advertising, added more vendors, and added another market day to make it more accessible to community members.”

Customers are also treated with a smattering of colorful crafts and artwork like beaded earrings, and ribbon shirts. You’ll also find unique handmade items such as goats milk soap with mint essence, and chilled lemonade infused with lavender. And fresh, baked apple pie..the kind that brings you back to the good ole days!

Vendor Margaret Chubb offers baked goods at the market and says, “I love the way people look forward to the market, and always come back! The responses have been unbelievable.”

It’s a cornucopia of goodness that visitors will say goodbye to on October 3rd. But the Akwesasne Farmer’s Market will return next year, says Bonaparte, “with the rising interest in direct-to-consumer and local products, we expect it to continue to grow every year.” This is good news for Akwesasronon.

The Akwesasne Farmer’s Market runs Thursdays and Saturdays from 11am-2pm, until October 3rd. Perhaps this is the best time to head over and pick the perfect pumpkin? They certainly got ‘em.
