This past Saturday evening, March 16, 2019, members of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service(AMPS) and the Integrated Crime and Drug Unit, executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) at a residence on Sunday Drive in the District of Tsi Snaihne (Snye).
A male and female were arrested and police seized cocaine with an estimated street value of $4000. The late night search also resulted in the seizure of approximately $10,000 in mixed currency, a 1â„4 lbs. of cannabis marijuana drug paraphernalia and packaging material.
Jason Sunday, 48 years old, and April Beaubien, 40 years old, both of Akwesasne have been charged with the following offences:
• Possession of a schedule 1 substance (cocaine) for the purpose of trafficking
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime
• Unlawful possession of cannabis marihuana for the purpose of sale
According to a press release issued by the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, the search warrant execution was the result of an investigation into cocaine trafficking.
AMPS says the investigation began in late January 2019.
Both accused persons were released from custody and scheduled to appear at a later date before the Valleyfield Provincial Court.
